High Level Dialogue with AfricaRoad to TICAD7 in Yokohama and Africa Development Dynamics Report 2019

The OECD Development Centre and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Japan present a High-Level Dialogue with Africa, to be held on 21 May 2019 at the OECD headquarters in Paris.
The special event will reflect on promoting economic transformation in Africa, one of the key themes of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.
The event will look at the roles of government and private sector in enhancing connectivity through infrastructure development.
The High-Level Dialogue will take place on the sidelines of the OECD Forum 2019 “A World in (E)motion” on digitalisation and globalisation, the Fifth High-Level Meeting of the Governing Board of the OECD Development Centre on Development for All: the Role of Domestic and International Policies and the OECD 2019 Ministerial Council Meeting on “Harnessing Digital Transition for Sustainable Development”.
The event intends to inform the global debate leading to the 7th edition of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VII) to be held in Yokohama on 28-30 August 2019.
Leaders from numerous international and regional organisations and high-level country representatives will participate. A strong participation from African officials, Paris-based and from the capital, is expected. They will gather to discuss different aspects of the continent’s economic development.
Africa is currently on track to ratify and implement the Continental Free Trade Area. Boosting infrastructure development and connectivity, firms’ innovation, and productivity is key to accelerate the continent’s economic transformation and realise the full potential of regional integration.
The High-Level Dialogue will provide insights to nurture the policy debate between African policy makers and their global partners, notably with the member countries of the OECD and its Development Centre.
The DEV-Japan High-Level Dialogue with Africa will benefit from the preliminary findings of the Africa’s Development Dynamics (AfDD) 2019 report that focuses on “Public Policies for Productive Transformation”. The report will examine the patterns of productive transformation in Africa and its five regions.
The AfDD 2019 launch is planned at the African Union Extraordinary Summit to be hosted in July in Niamey, Niger.
